Ever since Haylee learned how to read, she has been addicted. In kindergarten, she struggled with reading, but then, somehow, it clicked and she literally could not stop reading. She hasn't stopped since. In 2nd or 3rd grade, she fell in love with her first book series- Charlie Bone- and then her second- Warriors. She has loved, and continues to love, many books over the years. These books become a bug part of her identity and who she is. For Haylee, reading has always been a favorite hobby; she does it whenever she has time and truly loves it. Typically, free reading is her favorite part of the school day, and she would never waste the opportunity by not actually reading. A couple days ago she started a new book, Another Day by David Levithan. She finished at least eight books this summer- probably more. Over the past year, she's read at least 30 books, but she wished she had time for more. Her family's house is filled with books- hundreds of them in many places. Haylee loves books from a variety of genres including fantasy, realistic fiction, romance, memoirs, some mystery and whatever else seems interesting. She adores authors like Rick Riordan, Leigh Bardugo, JK Rowling, John Green, and Sarah J. Mass. Most of the books that Haylee reads are young adult novels; she likes to read for fun, so she mostly chooses books that look interesting and entertaining. Some of them are a little challenging, but usually they are not too difficult. She would like to challenge herself more and read some more difficult books sometimes, but she does not want to lose the simple joy of reading. Over the years, she has grown as a reader, reaching for more and more challenging and meaningful books. Haylee was born to be a reader, she wishes she had more time to just read, and hopes to continue to read books she loves throughout her entire life.
Haylee doesn't like to talk about herself as a writer. She is actually an avid writer, but, for some reason, has not told very many people about this. Haylee loves to write, but she likes to write the way she wants to- not the way she's told to in class. Nearly as far back as Haylee can remember, she has wanted to write a novel. She has always had a head full of stories waiting to be told, but has never been able to collect her thoughts enough to write them down fully- until recently. She is now working on her first novel, very slowly. Haylee loves creative writing, especially fiction and fantasy. She writes because she wants to share her ideas. She writes because she wants the stories in her head to not be only in her head anymore. She writes for the enjoyment of writing. She writes to express herself. These are the reasons that most people write, she believes. Haylee tries her very best to write every day, at least for a little bit, in her free time. As much as she loves to write, though, it can be difficult to find time. Haylee also likes to write about real topics that she finds important. If an essay is assigned on an important or interesting topic, she will actually enjoy writing it. She loves to write about things she is passionate about, she wants to share her thoughts on these things with the world. For Haylee, writing is a passion; she loves to work on her writing. But she is scared to share her writing with other people. She hopes that, someday soon, she will view her writing as good enough to share with other people. She hopes that, eventually, it will be good enough to share with the whole world. Haylee believes that practice makes improvement, so she continues to write no matter how hard it is or how bad she thinks her writing may be. She will never, ever stop writing.
